The Communities

Mahapach-Taghir is active in 7 communities nation wide. Each community is a neighborhood, or a street in a neighborhood, where a "Civic Center" is operating – a center that initiates all kinds of communal activities, co-ordinates all the activities in the neighborhood, both municipal and of social organizations. The center, managed by the residents and students active in Mahapach-Taghir (accompanied by Mahapach-Taghir's Community Coordinator), ensures for the first time full co-operation of the residents, and an accordance between the help and the actual needs.

The "Learning Community" works in the framework of the Civic Center – a critical educational center that provides personal tutoring, enrichment classes, preparation for final exams, and other activities for children from 1st to 12th grade. All activities are free of charge but in exchange for activity hours of children and parents in the community. The main task of Mahapach-Taghir's staff is in providing tools for establishing co-operation between residents and municipal government, social organizations, students, and themselves.

We at Mahapach-Taghir realize that the Civic Center, including the Learning Community transforms the neighborhood from a geographic location into a community – an organic and united body that successfully conducts action in the neighborhood, develops local leadership, both youth and adult, empowers the children, the residents, and the students. The nature of the action differs between communities, according to the relevant needs.
